Diffuse shrubs, prostrate or hanging, pubescent with soft hairs. Leaves ovate¬-suborbicular, with a length/breadth ratio of 1-1.25 (-1.5), usually nearly as broad as long; blade 2-4 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide, subcoriaceous, widest about the middle, apex acute, mucronate, base rounded; petiole 2-4 mm long; stipules of two hooked, orange-yellow spines. Flowers 3.5-5.5 cm across, asymmetrical; pedicels 4-9 cm long, sturdy in fruit. Calyx strongly zygomorphic; the posterior sepal deeply saccate, 1.7-3.5 cm long, broadest towards the apex, 9-15 mm deep, very narrowed at the base, more or less pubescent. Petals about as long as the posterior sepal. Stamens indefinite, very congested. Gynophore 4.5-7 cm long, often hairy at the base. Fruit 2-2.5 cm long, 1-1.5 cm broad, somewhat obovoid, many seeded.
