Distribution:

A Western Irano-Turanian element, distributed in Central Asia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Grows among rock crevices, stony and calcareous hills, on steep rocky slopes  between 1000 and 2500 m.

Perennial plants with 1 – 3  cm thick root. Stem 30 – 50  cm tall, glabrous sulcate-fistular, leafy mostly at the base, paniculately branched above. Leaves simple, glaucous, shortly petiolate, dilated at the base, mostly broad-elliptic, runcinate-pinnatipartie, sinuate dentate, obtuse; cauline leaves sessile, oblong-elliptical, glabrous, semiamplexicaul. Synflorescence racemosely paniculate. Capitula 2 – 2.5 x c. 2 cm, campanulate, each with 32-38 florets; peduncles short, thick bracteolate.Involucre phyllaries 5-6-seriate, stereome divided, rather thick, dorsally hispid, subobtuse-acute; outermost 6 – 8  x 5 - 6 mm, ovate; middle ones 13 – 15  x 3 – 4  mm, ovate-lanceolate or oblong, innermost 19 – 22  x c. 3 mm, broadly linear - oblong. Florets yellow. Cypselas 4 – 5  x 3 – 3.5  mm, yellowish-brown, much compressed, broad elliptic to ovate, 1-middle rib prominent and 2 lateral ribs more or less distinct on each side, gradually attenuate into 7 – 10  mm long, dark brown, filiform beak, longer than the cypsela. Pappus biseriate, outer bristles small; inner ones 8 – 10  mm long, white-pale.
