Erect, biennial or perennial, ± glabrous, 25-60 cm tall, usually basally branched herbs. Leaves all in a basal rosette, cauline leaves if present few and akin to basal leaves but smaller in size, petiole 10 – 25 cm long and narrowly coriaceous winged, blades triangular-ovate, 3.5 – 9 x 0.7 – 3 cm, pinnately dissected into triangular terminal and lateral lobes, basally sagittate, with two lateral horizontal lobes at the base, sometimes leaves lanceolate. Capitula on thin peduncles, 8-16-flowered, few to numerous in corymbose synflorescence, 5 – 10 x 3 – 5 mm. Involucre green, 6 – 7 (-8) x 2 mm. Phyllaries ovate-lanceolate, acute, outer ones very short; inner ones 6-10, linear, longer. Ligules yellow. Cypselas elliptic, 2 – 2.5 mm long, mostly brown rarely dark purplish-brown, ribbed, ribs smooth, glabrous, beak up to c. 1 mm long. Pappus 3 – 4 mm long, pale-white.
