Herbs, perennial, sometimes subshrubs. Stems 1-2 m, woody at base, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Leaves petiole slender, 1-2 cm; blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 4-15 x 1-5 cm, pubescent with simple and stalked, spurred or 2-rayed trichomes, base cuneate, margin denticulate, apex acuminate. Racemes terminal, ebracteate, simple; fruiting pedicels ascending to horizontal, glabrous, 6-10 mm. Sepals oblong, glabrous, 3-4 x 1.5-2 mm; petals yellowish, spatulate, 4-5 x ca. 1 mm; filaments ca. 2 mm; anthers oblong, ca. 2 mm. Fruits linear, 4-6 cm, spreading, terete, sessile; valves prominently veined, glabrous; style 1-2 mm. Seeds oblong, plump, wingless, ca. 2 mm; cotyledons incumbent.
Flowering: Nov-Jun.
Habitat; clay soil in steep volcanic slopes and flats in forests, deep shade in forest understory. Elevation: 1200-2600 m.
Distribution: Mexico (Colima, Jalisco).
