Annotation: This name is invalidly published under Art. 34.2 of the Code, which states þthat "When, on or after 1 January 1953, two or more different names based on the same type are proposed simultaneously for the same taxon by the same author...none of them is validly published." In the same paper, the authors published Anathallis racemiflora Pridgeon & M.W. Chase (p. 250), also invalidly. As both names were intended as new combinations based on Pleurothallis racemiflora Lodd., they were demonstrably based on the same type. The authors later corrected their error in Lindleyana 17: 100 (2002) by affirming Anathallis as the correct generic disposition and rejecting Stelis racemiflora (by synonymizing it under A. racemiflora). N.B.: Although Pridgeon & Chase intended both Anathallis racemiflora and Stelis racemiflora as new combinations, they must instead be construed as nomina nova, because their proposed basionym, Pleurothallis racemiflora Lodd., is itself illegitimate (as a later homonym).
