Flowers zygomorphic, rose pink with dark star-shaped marking in centre; perianth tube funnel-shaped, lower part 10–17 long, upper part flaring and nearly horizontal, 6–10 mm long, ± 6 mm diam. at mouth; tepals spreading, elliptic to obovate, 19–25 × 7–13 mm. Filaments unilateral and declinate, ± 12 mm long; anthers 7–8 mm long, dark purple. Style arching below stamens, usually dividing near base of anthers, branches ± 3 mm long. Capsules and seeds unknown. Flowering time: mid October to mid November.
Country: South Africa
South African Province: Western Cape
Distribution and ecology: a rare and local species restricted to the foot of the Groot Drakenstein and Hottentots Holland Mtns between Paarl and Sir Lowry’s Pass; on granite soils in renosterveld. The species is known with certainty from only one or two sites near Stellenbosch.
Diagnosis: a small species with linear to lanceolate leaves and pink flowers with funnel-shaped perianth tube 16–27 mm long, and declinate stamens with relatively short, purple anthers 7–8 mm long. Watsonia rogersii is superficially similar but is usually a taller plant and has longer anthers 9–13 mm long.
