Distribution:

Pakistan (Chitral, Northern Areas, Kashmir), Tajikistan (E. Pamir), Kyrgizistan (Central Tian Shan), Kazakhistan (Alatau), China (W Sinkiang).

Comment/Acknowledgements:

All parts except roots are used for treatment of vomiting especially in children and also used for cuts and bruises.

Grows on subhumid sparsely vegetated, dry alpine habitats, rocky slope, ledges,  grasslands and  meadows, rocky and scree slopes amidst rocks between 2500 to 4500 m

Perennial, thinly appressed arachnoid-floccose, pale globoid glandulose  herb, with 5 – 10(-20) cm tall erect or ascending, ± terete, laxly leafy, stems  originating from long, creeping, little branched, thin rhizomes covered with previous petiolar growths remains. Roots thin, fasciculate. Leaves 1 – 4.5 cm long, on narrowly winged petiole, membranous to slightly coriaceous,  lanceolate to ovate-elliptic, 1.5 – 7  cm long, (0.5–) 1 – 3 cm wide, veins and veinlets obscure, greyish cobwebby floccose  and gland dotted on both sides but more so beneath, somewhat discolorous, basally cuneate to ± truncate, shallowly denticulate on margins, teeth  4 – 10 pairs and with dark mucronate, apices triangular apiculate – acuminate. Capitula  subsessile or shortly pedunculate, usually 2 – 10 together in dense   or loose  terminal corymb,  subtended by 2 – 3, bract-like leaves, ca 15-flowered. Involucre obconical or narrowly campanulate, 14 – 18 mm  long, 8 – 13 mm wide, subobtuse at the base, cobwebby tomentose. Phyllaries 3 – 4-seriate, imbricate, pale-green and purple tinged especially on margins and apices, arachnoid hairy to glabrescent; outer phyllaries triangular-ovate, ca 3 mm wide, acuminate; median narrowly ovate-elliptic to oblongish, ca 2.5 mm wide, ± acute; inner ones oblong-linear, acute. Corolla mauve or reddish purple, 12 – 16 mm long, tube almost as long as limb minutely glandulose, limb with 4 – 5 mm long lobes. Anther tube reddish-blue, anthers with fimbriate basal appendages. Cypselas pale-brown, somewhat compressed, 3.5 – 5 mm long, beset with  minute, pale, globose glands, 3 – 6-ridged, furrows darker. Pappus biseriate, outer bristles white, scabrid, ca 3 mm long, deciduous, inner bristles 10 – 14 mm long, basally fused, persistent, brownish below, white above, long-feathery.
