Aster azureus f. laevicaulis Fernald

A. oolentangiensis var. laevicaulis (Fernald) A.G. Jones

Basal and lower stem leaves mostly deeply cordate at the base, less commonly truncate. Median stem leaves with the blade mostly 1–3 cm wide, lanceolate to narrowly ovate. Inflorescence branches usually relatively strongly ascending. Heads mostly 2.0–2.5 cm in diameter (including the extended ray corollas) at flowering. Involucre 5–8 mm long. 2n=32. August–November.

Scattered nearly throughout the state (South Dakota to Texas east to New York, Ohio, and Florida; Canada). Glades, upland prairies, sand prairies, savannas, mesic to dry upland forests on rocky slopes, and ledges and tops of bluffs; also roadsides.
