Medium sized unarmed tree, young branches tomentose, greyish older branches ash grey. Leaves alternate, 7-15 cm x 2-8 cm, ovate, oblong or elliptic, crenate-serrate with deciduous tips, acute-acuminate, mostly rounded at the base, sub-coriaceous to coriaceous, grey velvety tomentose beneath, glabrous above, some times older leaves pubescent on the nerves only, penninerved, 7-8 pairs of lateral nerves, petiole 8-20 mm long velvety tomentose, grooved in the middle, stipules minute, deciduous. Inflorescence an axillary raceme, generally bearing few small leaves, 2-8 cm long. Flower 2-3 mm in diameter, subsessile. pedicel c. 1-3 mm long, calyx 5 lobed, pubescent, c. 2 mm long, triangular acute, hypanthium as long as the lobes. Petals broadly obovate, emarginate, clawed, c. 1.5 mm long. Anthers dorsifixed, less than 1 mm, dehiscing longitudinally. Disc, glabrous, style short stigma slightly lobed. Fruit 4-5 mm long, obovoid, 3 lobed, 3 seeded. Seed with a broad groove.
