An erect shrub up to 1.5 m tall, with branches and leaves hispid all over. Leaves 2-3 x 0.5-1.2 cm, ovate or elliptic, subacute, base more or less rounded, margin bristly, ciliate, crisp, scattered bristly hair on both surfaces. Peduncle up to 3 mm long. Bracts 5-7 mm, ovate, flat, glandular-pubescent, hispid. Calyx tube glandulose, ciliate. Corolla tubular, 1.3-1.8 cm long, narrow, gibbous at the base, broader at the mouth, lobes at least half as long as the tube, subequal, hispid on the outer surface. Stamens and style exserted. Berries in pairs with persistent calyx, c. 1 cm long, ovoid, free, orange-red.
