Distribution: Undoubtedly from the Americas, this species is cultivated and naturalized in Africa, Asia and Malaysia.

Climbers with hebaceous stems, sparsely hirsute to glabrous. Leaves palmately divided almost to the base, the 7-9 lobes sinuate to sinuate-dentate, usually glabrous. Flowers usually solitary, occasionally cymose. Sepals oblong, 18-25 mm long, mucronate, glabrous. Corolla white with purple centre, 3-4.5 cm long. Fruit capsular, depressed-globose, 1-2 cm in diameter, subtended and partially surrounded by the calyx. Seeds black, glabrous.
