Note
|
It is cultivated in Mexico, the Caribbean, and as far south as Bolivia for its edible fruit, mostly at middle and high elevations. It is locally naturalized in much of its range. The fruits are cooked in a heavy syrup and eaten as deserts. No specimens have been seen from Panama, but it is to be expected as an escape.
