Description Plants with creeping rhizomes; culms 0.5-1.5 m. long, stout, sometimes pilose above, often bulbous- at the base; leaves 7-16 cm. long, 8-25 mm. wide, usually scabrous; spikelets oblong, 6-10 mm. long, clustered, the scales pubescent, aristate, with spreading or recurved awns; bristles ovate, membranous, not stipitate.
Distribution An abundant species in damp places, in tropics of both hemispheres.
