21a. var. anthelatus Wiegand

J. tenuis f. anthelatus (Wiegand) F.J. Herm.

J. tenuis f. discretiflorus (F.J. Herm.) Fernald

Inflorescences condensed to open, the flowers occurring singly along the inflorescence branches. Tepals 2.5–4.0 mm long. Fruits about 3/4 as long as the perianth.

Common throughout Missouri (eastern U.S. west to Kansas). Openings of mesic upland forests, stream banks, and margins of ponds and lakes; also paths and roadsides, fields, pastures, and open, disturbed areas.

This is the more common of the Missouri varieties, and it also tolerates a broader range of conditions.
