J. tenuis f. discretiflorus (F.J. Herm.) Fernald
Inflorescences condensed to open, the flowers occurring singly along the
inflorescence branches. Tepals 2.5–4.0 mm long. Fruits about 3/4 as long as the
perianth.
Common throughout Missouri (eastern U.S. west to Kansas). Openings of mesic
upland forests, stream banks, and margins of ponds and lakes; also paths and
roadsides, fields, pastures, and open, disturbed areas.
This is the more common of the Missouri varieties, and it also tolerates a
broader range of conditions.
