Description: Plants developing clusters of cormlets in leaf and branch axils and at floral nodes, never developing capsules. Flowers orange-red. Sterile triploids 2n = 27.
Country: South Africa
South African Province: Western Cape
Distribution and ecology: recorded from a few localities in the Breede River Valley and on the flats around Cape Town, notably Joostenberg and Kenilworth Race Course, in seasonal vleis, forming dense and sometimes extensive stands due to its exceptional capacity for vegetative reproduction. It is a weed in Australia, Mauritius and Réunion.
