Comment/Acknowledgements:

It is a very typical plant and commonly growing on the loose sand, often forming large patches on sand-dunes, in depressions on muddy sandy-silty moist  soil.

Perennial, 10 – 70  cm tall herb with somewhat woody rootstock and a few or solitary  ± divaricately branched floral stems. Leaves lanceolate to ribbon-like in appearance, (3-) 6 – 18  x 0.3 – 4.5 cm, subamplexicaul, simple to irregularly pinnatifid with acute segments, upper leaves gradually reducing, at top becoming small amplexicaul bracts. Capitula 35-60-flowered, on 1 – 6  cm long, bracteolate, patent to erect peduncles, terminal, occasionally  borne  in an intricately branched synflorescenc. Involucre at anthesis  10 – 15 mm long, enlarged to c. 2  cm  at fruiting.  Phyllaries basally not or slightly hardened, 3-seriate; somewhat reticulately veined; outer ones ovate, acute; innermost phyllaries 8-12, lanceolate to  linear-lanceolate, 10 – 15  mm long, white-scarious at apices. Florets with c. 3 – 3.5 mm long tube and  7.5 – 14 mm long, pale-yellowish ligules. Anther tube excluding appendages 2.5 – 3.5 mm long. Style branches mostly with blackish sweeping hairs. Fruiting receptacle 2.5 – 5  mm across. Cypselas heteromorphic, columnar to cylindrical,  3 – 6.5 mm long; inner ones with 4 main ribs and 8 secondary ribs, papillose; outer cypselas cylindrical, slightly stout, curved and shorter than inner ones, with 5 main ribs and 10 secondary ribs, densely papillate.  Pappus dimorphic, 8 – 14  mm long, persistent, white, inner pappus row  of longer bristles.
