See Ward (2010) and Clayton (1967, 1968) for discussions. The glumes from most plants around the Caribbean appear to be longer and wider and are often tridentate or irregular at the apex, rather than slender and narrowly acute as in P. karka. Some specimens, however, do approach P. karka.
