Festuca mexicana Roemer et Schultes, Syst. Veg. 2: 732 (1817). Tipo: Cult. en Berlín de semillas de México, Sessé s.n. (B?).

Brachypodium latifolium Fourn., B. subulatum Fourn.

Plantas cespitosas. Tallos 10-130 cm, ramificados, las ramas inferiores decumbentes y enraizando; entrenudos glabros; nudos retrorsamente barbados. Vainas glabras, ciliadas; lígula 1.2-4 mm, ciliada; láminas 4-15 cm x 2-6 mm, adpreso hirsutas. Racimo 6-11 cm, linear; pedicelos 1-2.5 mm, densamente puberulentos. Espiguillas 1-varias, 15-37 mm, desarticulándose fácilmente; gluma inferior 5-10 mm, 5-7-nervia; gluma superior 6.5-10.5 mm, 7-9-nervia; flósculos 5-12; lemas 10-13 mm, coriáceas, 7-nervias, escábridas, la arista 2-6 mm; pálea 9-10 mm, las quillas ciliado-pectinadas; anteras 1.5-2 mm. 2n=38. Potreros, orillas de caminos, páramos. Ch (Breedlove y Davidse 54856, MO); G (Harmon 3589, MO); CR (Pohl y Davidse 11420, ISC); P (Davidse y D'Arcy 10169, MO). 1900-3700 m.
