Alternate Note:
Nicolson, Suresh & Manilal, An Interpretation of Van Rheede's Hortus Malabaricus (1988), p. 309: "As noted by many authors, ~Poa amabilis~ L. 1753, ~Poa tenella~ L. 1753 and ~Poa plumosa~ Retz. 1786 are taxonomic synonyms and the only question is who was the first to unite the first two and choose one (Art. 57.2). Bor (l.c.) thought that Stapf (in J. Hook., Fl. Brit. India 7: 315. 1897) was the first (placing ~Poa amabilis~ L. in synonymy under ~E. tenella~). However, Munro (J. Linn. Soc. Bot. 6: 43. 1862) earlier commented that the Linnaean specimen marked ~tenella~ by Linnaeus [87.33 LINN] is the same as ~Poa amabilis~ L. He then mentioned other elements cited by Linnaeus [in 2nd ed.], including Rheede, and stated `I therefore consider that all of the above [incl. ~Poa tenella~] belong to ~P. amabilis~'. Under Art. 57.2, Munro's choice of ~amabilis~ over ~tenella~ means that ~amabilis~ is treated as having priority."
