Type: Herb. Linn. 1039.1 (LINN, Lectotype). 

Distribution:

Nepal, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Tropical Africa, India, Pakistan, Kashmir, naturalized in Iran, Turkey, Australia and Pacific Islands.

Comment/Acknowledgements:

A rare species in our area (Western Himalayas), fairly common in Eastern Himalayas).

Annual herbs, 15–50 (–55) cm tall, usually branched from the base, branches ascending. Leaves petiolate, petiole narrowly winged, 1–3.5 cm long, lamina often pinnatifid or lyrate, margins coarsely serrate with a large terminal lobe and 1–2 pairs of lateral lobes, pubescent, upper leaves smaller, often simple. Capitula globose, 3–10, on branched peduncles, 3–5 mm across. Involucre 3–4 mm wide, phyllaries biseriate, unequal, oblong or oblong lanceolate, ca 1 mm long. Ray florets white or purplish, many seriate, female. Disc florets few, yellowish, corolla 0.8–1 mm long. Cypselas yellowish, obovoid, compressed, ca 1 mm long. Pappus absent or sometimes disc cypselas with 1–2 bristles.
