Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan (Balochistan, Waziristan,  Kashmir), and Central Asia.

Comment/Acknowledgements:

It is a very common xerophytic weed, grows  in waste and cultivated fields  in riverian foothill  plains to 3000 m in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (NWFP) and Balochistan.

It is considered a fodder for sheep and camels (teste Burkill, l. c.) in Balochistan. In Salt Range (Punjab), its tender shoots are eaten as pot herb.

A dwarf annual, dichotomously branched from base, ± prostrate herb, with sparse arachnoid indumentum to glabrous and lustrous on internodes and leafy all over. Tap root 5 – 15 cm long, unbranched. Leaves oblong-lanceolate towards base, 8 – 10 cm long, 3 – 4 cm wide, pinnatipartite into narrowly lanceolate lobes on ± entire rachis; cauline leaves decurrent to form spinose wings on stem, lanceolate, smaller in size. Capitula solitary, usually 2 – 3 cm in diameter including spines. Involucre oblong-elliptic, (5-) 6 – 7 (-8) mm long, 5 – 6 mm wide, sparsely arachnoid to glabrescent. Phyllaries (15-) 20, espinose on margins, outermost  carinate, constricted above base; median  6 – 8 mm long, spreading; innermost broadly lanceolate-triquetrous, membranous, white, patent, sharply acuminate at apices. Receptacular bristles, smooth. Florets 18 – 35 per capitulum.  Corolla  yellow, 7 – 8 mm long, limb 4 – 5 mm long, longer than the tube, lobes ca 1.5 mm long. Anther tube yellow, glabrous. Cypselas obovate, 5 -7-angled, ca 2.5 mm long, ca 1.5 mm broad, scrobiculate, with crenate-dentate margins, truncate and ± dentate at the apices.
