Notes : This species is rather widespread but apparently not common in most or all of its range. It is characterized by its medium-sized habit, well developed calyptrate stipules, inflorescencs often with the peduncles rather short or reduced giving the branched portion a "tripartite" appearance or fasciculate arrangement, corollas with rather well developed tubes, and ellipsoid to obovoid fruits that are usually stipitate. Psychotria sarapiquiensisis easily confused with some other species with similar leaves, stipules, and inflorescence arrangement and in some cases also stipitate fruits, in particular Psychotria trichotoma, Psychotria mexiae, and Psychotria panamensis.
Distribution : Wet premontane forest at 600-1500 m, central Mexico to Panama.
