Description
|
Shrubs 0.5-8.0 m high, the branchlets 4-angled, ridged, often nigrescent, se- riceous or glabrescent. Leaves elliptic to oblong, 9-15 cm long, 3-12 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, sometimes abruptly shortly acuminate, attenuate or obtuse at the base, the midvein prominent beneath, the lateral veins 6-12, arcuate, anas- tomosing close to the margin, the veinlets conspicuous; petioles 6-16 mm long, often stout, sericeous or glabrate; stipules subpersistent, free, entire, lanceolate or subulate, acuminate or obtuse at the apex, sericeous. Inflorescences axillary, geminate or solitary, to 8 mm long, densely sericeous, the peduncle short, bearing a few sessile flowers, the bracts minute, to 1 mm long, triangular ovate, acute or obtuse at the apex. Flowers sessile, the calyx cupuliform, the cup ca. 2 mm long, subtruncate or minutely and irregularly toothed, glabrous; corolla white or yel- low, the tube ca. 3 mm long, glabrous outside, sericeous in the throat, the lobes oblong, ca. 2.5 mm long, strongly cucullate, glabrous outside, papillose within; stamens 5, the anthers oblong, ca. 1.2 mm long, shortly acuminate at the apex; ovarian disc tubular, ca. 0.8-1.0 mm long, the style thick, ca. 2.8 mm long, dilated above, the stigmas obtuse, ca. 0.6 mm long. Fruits elliptic, 5.5-8.0 mm long, 2.5- 6.0 mm wide, drying black, glabrous, the pyrenes 2, the ventral face of the seed plane, the dorsal face ecostate but muricate.
