Perennial, 15-40 cm tall, rhizomatous, simple or branched, villous, erect herb, rhizome 5-10 mm thick. Leaves opposite lanceolate to lanceolate-ovate, 1.5-3.5 x 0.5-1.5 cm, deeply serrate, 5-13-toothed, acute, glabrous or sparsely hairy; sessile or short petiolate. Raceme terminal, 10-20 cm long, lax, 5-20-flowered, glandular and eglandular hairy; peduncle 1-3 cm long; fruiting pedicels 6-18 mm long, erect to slightly curved; bracts 3-9 mm long, similar to leaves, particularly the lower ones. Calyx 4 or 5-lobed, in fruit 4-7 mm long, lobes villous, linear-lanceolate. Corolla 1.2-1.6 cm across, 6-8 mm long, bluish, tube 1.5-2 mm, hairy inside. Stamens almost inserted. Capsule 5-8 x 3-4 mm, slightly compressed, elliptic, slightly notched, longer than wide, hairy; style 6-7 mm long, equal to or longer than fruit. Seeds 30 per capsule, c. 1 x 0.5 mm, broadly elliptic, yellowish.
