Plants yellowish green to reddish brown, in tufts. Stems erect, usually branched, with dense rhizoids at base. Leaves sparse at lower part, dense at upper part of stems, sometimes forming rosettes, obovate, rounded or elliptical, rarely broadly ovate, narrowed at base, gradually acuminate, bluntly acute or shortly pointed at apex; margins entire, narrowly bordered; costae percurrent or ending just below the apex; leaf cells lax, rounded-oblate or rounded-hexagonal, obliquely arranged, thick-walled at corners, porose; basal cells rectangular, marginal cells narrowed, thick-walled. Setae solitary, elongate; capsules pendulous, ovoid to elongate-ovoid; annuli large, deciduous; peristome double; exostome teeth short; endostome segments well developed; basal membrane low; cilia absent. Spores spherical, minutely papillose.

The genus consists of five species in the world. Two species are known in China.
