Plants rather small, dark green, in dense cushions. Stems very short, erect, simple or branched, densely foliate, compactly radiculose at base. Leaves erect, soft, ovate to oblong-ovate or oblong-obovate; margins plane, entire; costa percurrent to shortly excurrent; upper leaf cells subquadrate, smooth; lower cells rectangular, rather hyaline. Autoicous. Perigonia budlike. Setae erect, 2–3 cm long; capsules small, erect, ovoid, apophyses weakly developed, short, narrower than the urns; opercula not differentiated (cleistocarpous); annuli none; peristome teeth rudimentary or none. Calyptrae large, cucullate. Spores small, spherical.
