Bryobrothera 5: 134. f. 1. 1999. Type. China: Yunnan, De-qin (Diqing) Prefecture (Co.), Da Xue Shan (Big Snow Mountain), N of Geza, Large valley, 28°34′N, 99°47′E, alt. 4410 m, D. G. Long 23853 (holotype E, not seen; isotypes MO, PE).

 

Plants small to medium-sized, 1.0–2.2 cm high, in dense cushions. Stems erect, simple or branched, mixed with dense, reddish brown rhizoids at base. Leaves sparse below, crowded and rosetted above, oblong-obovate, slightly concave, 2.8–5.4 mm × 1.2–2.0 mm, apiculate to shortly acute at apex; margins serrate above, entire below, often narrowly recurved near the base; costa stout, reddish in lower half, slender above, ending just below leaf apex; upper leaf cells oblong-hexagonal to shortly rectangular, 35–80 µm × 25–40 µm, somewhat thick-walled; marginal cells elongate, narrowly rectangular, weakly bordered; lower cells elongate, narrowly rectangular, 75–230 µm × 25–45 µm, thin-walled. Autoicous. Perigonia budlike, on leaf axils. Perichaetia terminal, perichaetial leaves not differentiated. Setae erect, slender, 1.8–6.5 cm long, pale reddish brown; capsules erect to suberect, narrowly fusiform-cylindrical, brownish, somewhat asymmetric, apophyses well developed, tapered to the seta; opercula not differentiated; annuli none; peristome none. Calyptrae fusiform-cucullate, naked, fringed at base. Spores spherical, 11–12 µm in diameter, smooth.
