Ecology. Puna; on soil and rocks, apparently less often found on shrubby trees. Elevation. 3400-5040 m. Distribution. Bolivia: La Paz. World range: Mexico, Central America, Andes.
 
Ecología. Puna; sobre suelo y rocas, aparentemente menos a menudo encontrada sobre árboles arbustivos. Altitud. 3400-5040 m. Distribución. Bolivia: La Paz. Distribución mundial: México, Centro América y los Andes.
 
Zygodon pichinchensis is characterized by the 5-ranked foliate stems, presence of rhizoids for much of the stem length, ovate-short lanceolate leaves to ca. 1.7 mm, and coarsely elongate spiculose-papillae of the lamina and costa. Common in the humid puna of La Paz, this species should be found in Cochabamba and possibly Oruro and Potosí in the semi-humid puna. This species is described and illustrated by Calabrese (2006).
 
Zygodon pichinchensis se caracteriza por los tallos con hojas distribuidas en 5 hileras, presencia de rizoides en mayor parte del tallo, hojas corto-ovadas lanceoladas hasta ca. 1.7 mm, y espiculifero papilas gruesamente alargadas en la lámina y costa. Común en la puna húmeda de La Paz, esta especie puede ser encontrada en Cochabamba y posiblemente en Oruro y Potosí en la puna semi-húmeda. Esta especie fue descrita e ilustrada por Calabrese (2006).
