Plants medium-sized to rather large, green or yellowish green, glossy, in densely or loosely caespitose mats. Stems prostrate or ascending, to 5–10 cm long, loosely subpinnately or irregularly branched, branchlets arcuate; stem oval in cross section; cortical cells small, quadrate or hexagonal; epidermal cells small, thick-walled, in 3–4 layers, distinctly hyaline; central strand weakly differentiated; pseudoparaphyllia large, numerous, foliose. Stem and branch leaves similar, falcate-secund, narrowly elongate-lanceolate, 3.5–5.0 mm × ca. 0.6 mm, plicate, gradually narrowed to a long acumen, involute to somewhat tubular; margins serrulate at upper part of leaf; costae slender, reaching 1/2 the leaf length or above, 40–80 mm wide at base; median leaf cells elongate-rhomboidal to linear, ca. 8–15 times as long as wide; basal cells broad, rectangular, thick-walled, porose; alar cells few, usually inflated, hyaline, thin-walled. Autoicous. Inner perichaetial leaves elongate-lanceolate, ca. 6.0 mm × 0.8–1.0 mm, plicate; costae single, slender. Setae 20–30 mm long, reddish brown; capsules erect, cylindrical, arching curved, variable in sizes to 1.5–3.0 mm long; annuli differentiated, in 2–3 rows; endostome segments carinate, hyaline, smooth at base, papillose above; cilia 1–2(–3), short, or as long as the segments, often nodulose. Spores 12–18 mm in diameter, papillose.
