Plants medium-sized or large, green or yellowish green, glossy, in loosely caespitose mats. Stems prostrate, to 10 cm long, subpinnately branched; stem elliptical in cross section; cortical cells large, with distinct hyalodermis, central strand present; pseudoparaphyllia few, large. Stem leaves erect, broadly elliptic or oblong, 2–3 mm × 1.0–1.5 mm, cucullate at upper part, obtuse, shortly apiculate at the apex; margins plane, entire; costae double, short, or absent; median leaf cells linear, ca. 90 mm × 4.5 mm; alar cells enlarged, inflated, thin-walled, usually hyaline or colored, numerous, excavate, forming distinct, decurrent auricles. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves broadly lanceolate, ca. 1.7 mm × 0.8 mm, plicate; costae absent. Setae elongate; capsules reddish brown, horizontal, shortly cylindrical, strongly curved; cilia 3–4, shorter than segments, appendiculate. Spores 17–22 mm in diameter, finely papillose.
