Calymperes lonchophyllum is distinguished by plants appearing often stemless, narrow linear leaves to 14 mm, typically contorted when dry, teniolae absent, multistratose leaf limb margins, smooth costa, and smooth, transversely oblong limb cells. Calymperes venezuelanum (Mitt.) Broth. ex Pittier is similar but is distinguished from C. lonchophyllum by the contracted leaf limb base and leaf limb composed only of costa, upper leaf limb fragile and readily deciduous). Both species exhibit a costa in cross-section with 2 or more rows of guide cells.
