Distribution: On soil in a cloud forest; Chiapas (Cerro Tres Picos). - Mexico; Costa Rica; Venezuela and Brazil; Jamaica(?).
Discussion: The leaves have a dorsal stereid band and cells elongate and thick-walled throughout, those of the lower part of the base pitted.

Plants in tall, loose tufts up to 7 cm high, golden-green above, brownish below, not tomentose, equally foliate. Leaves erect-spreading, 7-8 mm long, narrowed from an ovate-lanceolate base to a nearly smooth subula which is sometimes shortly hyaline-tipped; costa 1/2 the leaf base and 1/3 the leaf middle, smooth at back, excurrent, in section showing larger ventral cells and a dorsal stereid band; alar cells conspicuous, reddish, thin-walled but sometimes with thickened corners; basal cells just above the auricles rectangular, 2-5:1, with thick, porose walls, gradually becoming more elongate, short-vermicular, and thick-walled, 60-75 x 7-9 µm (5-7:1) in the upper part of the base, much narrower at the margins; upper cells short-rhomboid, thick-walled, 25-35 x 5-6 µm (about 4-6:1). Sporophytes unknown.
