Ecology. Dry inter-Andean valleys and Tucuman-Bolivian montane forest; on trunk and branches of trees. Elevation. 1150-2065 m. Distribution. Bolivia: Santa Cruz, Tarija. World range: Only known from northern Argentina and Bolivia for the tropical Andes; also Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Guatemala.
 
Ecología. Valles secos interandinos y bosque montano Tucumano-boliviano; sobre troncos y ramas de árboles. Altitud. 1150-2065 m. Distribución. Bolivia: Santa Cruz y Tarija. Distribución mundial: en los Andes tropicales ha sido registrada sólo en el norte de Argentina y Bolivia; también Brasil, Paraguay, Uruguay y Guatemala.
 
Macrocoma orthotrichoides is distinguished by unvarying size of the laminal cells from costa to margin, and well developed papillose peristome. This species was previously recognized as Macromitrium filiforme Schwägr. (= Macrocoma filiforme (Hook. &Grev.) Grout), a synonym.
 
Macrocoma orthotrichoides se distingue por el tamaño invariable de las células de la lámina desde la costa hasta el margen, y peristoma papiloso bien desarrollado. Esta especie fue previamente conocida como Macromitrium filiforme Schwägr. (= Macrocoma filiforme (Hook. &Grev.) Grout), que es un sinónimo.
