Plants small to somewhat medium-sized, 0.5–1.5 cm high, dark green to yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect or erect-patent, simple or rarely branched; central strand absent or poorly differentiated. Leaves small, sparse below, more crowded above, contorted when dry, erect-spreading when moist, lingulate or oblong-elliptic, 1.0–1.5 mm × 0.4–0.6 mm, rounded obtuse at apex; margins plane or more or less recurved on one side, entire or minutely crenulate; costa slender, ending just below leaf apex; leaf cells lax, thin-walled, upper cells nearly quadrate; median cells oblong-hexagonal; lower cells shortly rectangular and larger. Dioicous. Male plants minute; perigonia budlike, terminal or lateral. Setae slender, 5–7 mm long, yellowish; capsules shortly cylindrical, apophyses not developed or very weakly developed; peristome short, inserted below the mouth, rather brittle, reddish, papillose. Calyptrae small, cucullate. Spores spherical, 15–21 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
