Notes:
Ecology: Montane forest to shrubby páramo; commonly found on trunk and branches of shrubs and treelets. Elevation: 1300-4050 m (Venezuela: 2500-3750 m, Colombia: 2100-3900 m, Ecuador: 1300-3700 m, Peru: 2000-4050 m, Bolivia: 1700-3800 m). Distribution: Mexico, Central America, Colombia to Bolivia; Africa.
 
Streptopogon erythrodontusis distinguished by the acuminate leaf apices, short to long excurrent costa, and marginal leaf border of linear cells. Streptopogon heterophyllus Herzog, based on several syntype collections from the department of Cochabamba, is considered a synonym. That may not be the case, some “forms” of S. erythrodontus producing abundant gemmae along the margins of the leaf appear to be rather distinct, and there also appears to be a geographical component to these forms, not randomly produced throughout the range of the species. Additional studies of this species would be of value.
 
Streptopogon erythrodontusis se distingue por las hojas con ápices acuminados, costa corto a largo excurrente y margen de la hoja con un borde de células lineales. Streptopogon heterophyllus Herzog, basada en varios sintipos colectados en el departamento de Cochabamba, es considerada un sinónimo.
