Plants forming loose tufts, dark green to brownish. Stems slender, to 7 cm long, rusty-red; in cross-section outer 1-3 rows of cells small, thick-walled, inner cells large, thin-walled, central strand well developed; rhizoids present, rather numerous below but not tomentose. Leaves distant, loosely erect-spreading and contorted, distally curled inward, when wet erect-spreading, rather pale olive green, ovate-ligulate, 2-2.3 mm long, to 0.6 mm wide at base, concave and distally enrolled, base short decurrent, apices obtuse-rounded to truncate; margins entire, crenulate at apex; costae single, ca. 4/5 lamina length (ending 15-20 cells below apex), at base ca. 0. 1 mm wide, in cross-section with 2-3 guide cells, stereids above and below (ca. single row); lamina unistratose, cell walls firm, apical cells subquadrate to short rectangular; median cells short to long rectangular, 20-40 µm long, 8-10 µm wide; lower and basal cells long rectangular, 50-80 µm long, 12-18 µm wide; insertion cells golden-yellow or brown. Dioicous? Sporophytes unknown.
