Plants medium-sized to rather large, 20–35 mm high, yellowish green, in dense tufts. Stems erect, usually simple, rarely branched. Leaves appressed when dry, erect-spreading when moist, triangular or deltoid at the base, gradually linear-lanceolate; margins entire, distinctly revolute throughout; costa excurrent, ending in a long, reddish brown awn; upper leaf cells usually rounded quadrate to hexagonal, regularly arranged, with single papilla, moderately thick-walled; basal cells irregularly rectangular, mostly smooth, hyaline. Setae elongate, erect, 3–5 cm long; capsules cylindrical; opercula erect, shortly conic-rostrate; peristome teeth twisted, persistent.
