Annual or perennial, erect, aromatic herbs, often densely tomentose or villose, mixed with stipitate glandular hairs. Leaves entire or dentate oblong or ovate, lower petiolate, upper and middle leaves sessile. Capitula heterogamous, radiate, racemosely or paniculately arranged. Involucre campanulate, phyllaries many–seriate (5–7–seriate), recurved, outer ones herbaceous, lanceolate, inner ones linear lanceolate with membranous margins. Receptacle flat, epaleate, alveolate. Ray florets 2–seriate, female, blue to pink or violet. Disc florets yellow, bisexual, tubular, tube slender with 5–lobed limb, lobes lanceolate, recurved. Anthers minutely caudate. Style appendages lanceolate, hairy. Cypselas oblanceolate, abruptly contracted at apex, sericeous–villous. Pappus uniseriate, bristles white – yellowish, basally connate, deciduous.
A small genus with 2 species, distributed from southwest to Central Asia. Represented in Pakistan by the following species.
