Notes:
Several species from Madagascar were described in Cremaspora, but apparently these were all transferred to Polysphaeria by Verdcourt when he studied the latter genus. Verdcourt (1981) reviewed Cremaspora and documented its natural distribution as Africa and the Comores, although elsewhere (Bridson & Verdcourt 1988) he continued to include Madagascar in the distribution for this genus. Cremaspora triflora (Thonn.) K. Schum. is found in the Comores, and was cultivated in the 19th century in India; however this species seems not to have been cultivated in Madagascar, and apparently has not been found native there (Verdcourt 1981; Capuron, unpubl. ms., p. 150). Verdcourt (1981) separated 3 subspecies of Cremaspora triflora, with subsp. comorensis (Baill.) Verdc. restricted to the Comores; subsp. triflora widespread in continental Africa, often at middle to higher elevations; and subsp. confluens (K. Schum.) Verdc. found in eastern continental Africa at lower to middle elevations, and has been cultivated in India.
