Family or Genus Distribution: not endemic to the Malagasy Region
Generic Species Diversity and Endemism Status: has been evaluated
No. of species in Fl. Madagasc.: 19 endemic
Accepted Published Species: 29 endemic
Estimated Unpublished Species: 6 endemic
Estimated Total Species: 35 endemic
Additional Taxonomic Work: in progress
Species Level Data Entry: not yet complete
Notes:

N.B. Weinmannia is a "pro parte (ex typus) synonym of Pterophylla, and remains a valid name, but all species from Madagascar formerly included in Weinmannia are now placed in Pterophylla.

The estimate of 6 additional species may increase pending further investigation of indets and several species complexes (e.g., Weinmannia humblotii, W. madagascariensis, W. bojeriana).

One binomial based on Malagasy material is excluded: Weinmannia trigyna Baker [≡Homalium trigynum (Baker) Sleumer]. Another binomial, Weinmannia rhodoxylon Tul., is known only from two sterile, probably juvenile, type sheets; the name definitely represents a species of the genus, but it is impossible to determine its affinity in the absence of flowers or fruit. Bernardi (1964: 208) suggested that the material might represent immature material of W. bojeriana or W. rutenbergii.
