Description
|
Low much branched and densely foliate shrubs. Leaves opposite or subopposite, small. Peduncles axillary, 1-flowered. Flowers medium-sized, 4- or 5-merous. Sepals patent in the bud, longer than the imbricated petals. Petals firm. Stamens numerous, unequal; filaments straight or hardly curved even in the bud, short and flat; anthers basifixed, 2-celled, dehiscing longitudinally, introrse. Ovary 3- to 5- celled; cells several-ovulate; placenta central. Berry several-seeded; seeds hippo- crepiform, with a hard and shining testa with a black spot at one side; embryo incurved; radicle elongate; cotyledons very short.
