Notes:
Breonadia is similar to Breonia, and has been confused with that; for their separation, see the key to Breonia and similar genera on the page for that genus. Breonadia includes only one species, which is characterized by its ternate to verticillate leaves with generally rather narrow leaf blades, its axillary inflorescences with the heads globose, and its small, sessile, free (i.e., separated) flowers. Razafimandimbison & Bremer (2001) presented an analysis based on molecular sequence data of the relationships of Breonadia, which they found related to a group comprising Gyrostipula, Janotia, and Breonia. Bridson & Verdcourt (1988: p. 443-446) presented a morphological description and detailed illustration of Breonadia salicina. The nomenclature related to this species, and in particular of several of its synonyms, has been very often cited incorrectly and much confused; some but not all the confusion comes from the work of Haviland and Ridsdale.
