General/Distribution: A genus with c. 50 species, distributed in China, Nepal, India and Pakistan. Represented in Pakistan by two species only.

Perennial rhizomatous erect or scrambling herbs or undershrubs, rhizome woody, usually few branched. Stem usually leafless in the lower part, leafy above or with the leaves subrosulate at the base of the inflorescence. Leaves usually petiolate, ovate-cordate to oblong lanceolate, usually unlobed, sometimes auriculate. Capitula few to numerous in terminal or axillary, lax to dense, simple or compound racemes or corymbs, radiate, disciform or discoid. Involucre calyculate. Phyllaries linear-lanceolate, margin scarious, (2-) 4-5 or 7-8 or 10-15, free, herbaceous to coriaceous. Ray and disc florets yellow. Anthers caudate, linear oblong, anther-collars balusterform to almost cylindrical, stout, hardly to rather distinctly dilated towards the base with somewhat enlarged basal lateral cells, endothecial tissues radial. Styles arms truncate or convex, papillate. Cypselas oblong, ribbed, glabrous or sometimes pubescent, pappus bristles capillary.

Perennial herbs to undershrubs, stem glandular pubescent. Leaves glabrous, snowy white beneath.

Shrubs, stem and branches white tomentose to reddish pubescent. At least the nerves of the leaves with red tomentum.
