Fl. Madagasc.: Vol. 174 Verbenaceae (1956) View in Botanicus,  Vol. 175 Lamiaceae (1998) View in Botanicus
APG website treatment: Lamiaceae
Notes: Alternate name: Labiatae.

The following genera were traditionally assigned to Verbenaceae: Adelosa, Callicarpa, Clerodendrum, Holmskioldia, Karomia, Premna, Tectona, Vitex and Volkameria.

Recent molecular work on the Tribe Ocimeae, Subtribe Plectranthinae has resulted in extensive changes to generic concepts, as a result the genus Coleus has been re-instated for certain species until recently included in Plectranthus (e.g. in Fl. Madagasc.), and Pycnostachys is now also included in Coleus (Paton et al. 2019.). In addition, 3 endemic mono-specific genera: Dauphinea, Madlabium and Perrierastrum have been placed in synonymy under Capitanopsis. The latter, now increased to 5 spp. is the only genus of Lamiaceae now regarded as endemic to Madagascar (Paton et al., 2018)

Subordinate Taxon Data:

The data in this table are derived from the corresponding Genus and Species pages. The table provides a summary of the treatment presented in the published parts of the Flore de Madagascar et des Comores, together with a summary of the data presented here in the Madagascar Catalogue, which includes information on the number of species currently accepted, and an estimate of the number of undescribed species for the genera for which a recent taxonomic evaluation has been conducted. The number of accepted species is added to the estimate of undescribed species to provide an estimated total. Place cursor over headers marked [+] for further explanation of the column contents.
