Perennial, 5-20 cm tall, simple or branched herbs, branches creeping at base; rhizome slender, c. 1 mm thick. Leaves 0.5-2 x 0.5-1 cm, opposite, ovate to orbicular, crenate to nearly entire, apically and basally obtuse, sparsely hairy; sessile or short petiolate. Raceme terminal, capitate, single, 2-3 cm long, 4-10-flowered, multicellular hairy; pedicels in fruits 1.5-5 mm long, erect; bracts 4-5 mm long, lanceolate. Calyx 4-5-lobed, if 5-lobed, upper lobe very small, 3-5 mm long in fruit. Corolla slightly exceeding the calyx, 3-4 mm long, 5-7 mm across, bluish to blue-purple, lobes orbicular, dentate, truncate at apex, tube glabrous inside. Style 0.5-1 mm long, exserted, half the length of the capsule; stigma 2-lobed. Capsule 4-6 x 3.5-4.5 mm, obcordate-ovoid, hirsute with multicellular hairs, compressed. Seeds 10-50 per capsule, 0.5-1 x 0.4-0.8 mm, elliptic, yellowish.
