Type: Type: ” Habitat  in Europa ad margines agrorum viarumque” Herb. Linn. No. 962.1 (LINN).
Distribution: A very common taxon, widely distributed in Europe, North and SE Africa, temperate and tropical  Asia; introduced and naturalized in Australasia and North and South  America.
Comment/Acknowledgements: Grows as a very common weed in cultivated fields, orchards, and wastelands, on hill slopes, along roadsides, water channels, by ditches in calcareous, sandy and nitrogenous soils from  sea level to 3000 m.

The aerial plant parts are used as a cure for diarrhea and bilious attacks in Balochistan (Loralai area). The root is a good stomachic and diuretic. It is cultivated in many parts of the world  for fodder and used as a salad vegetable and for its roots that were and are even now  used to blend with coffee.
