Notes: The name ~Ipomoea villosa~ Ruiz & Pav., was placed in synonymy of ~I. batatas~ on p. 396 [lectotypified by a specimen] and of ~I. purpurea~ on p. 448 [lectotypified by a plate] in Wood et al. (2020). The note on typification on p. 451 argues that the collection (probably by Dombey from Ecuador) was made post publication and not original material and can thus not be used as lectotype. ~I. villosa~ is therefore placed in synonymy here and not under ~I. batatas~. The names ~Ipomoea scabra~ Schult. and ~I. scabrida~ Roem. & Schult. are likely synonyms of ~I. purpurea~ (Wood et al. 2020).
