This species is characterized by its hirsute pubescence, reddish brown drying color, oblanceolate leaves, shortly cymose axillary or regularly pseudoaxillary inflorescences, and and tubular corollas. It is similar to Psychotria capuronii, which differs in its short velvety pubescence.
