~P.~ sect. ~Dioicopoa~. This species has been misunderstood. The holotype (LE) is an inter-sex plant of a dioecious species, as vouched and verified from ~Riedel 426~ (G, K, LE, US). The one voucher for Bolivia (Gram. Bolivia 1998) of this species is hermaphroditic with short anthers (0.9 mm) and is another species (det. as ~Poa bradei~ Pilg. RJS 2014). The reports for Paraguay and Argentina (cited by Fl. Ill. Catarinense 1981) are based on misconceptions of this species, as all Fl. St. Catarina vouchers are of ~Poa bradei~, a mistake repeated by CNWG 2003. The Uruguay report (and others stemming from Parodi 1961) is likewised discounted by Rosengurt et al. (1970).
