Notes :

This species is characterized by its leathery verticillate leaves with the venation not or hardly discernible, triangular stipules, subcapitate to shortly cymose axillary inflorescences, well developed calyx lobes, and dark purple to dark brown corollas with relatively long tubes (14-22 mm long). Danais coronata is similar to Danais volubilis, but Danais coronata has shorter calyx lobes.

Puff & Buchner documented Danais volubilis from central, western, and southern Madagascar, and the distributional information here follows their work for now. Some specimens from the north have also been identified as Danais volubilis, but are here provisionally excluded until they can be studied further; these differ in their larger leaves with the venation very visible, larger more lax inflorescences, and longer calyx lobes.
